Callahan Foundation Awards Grants to Six Greater Cleveland Non-profits

As the spring grant submission season is underway, the Callahan Foundation would like to announce and celebrate the non-profits who received funding from the Foundation in the fall of 2014 and are making an impact on the Greater Cleveland community.

In addition to awarding grants to MetroHealth’s School Health Program and The Sculpture Center, the Callahan Foundation is proud to support the following organizations in Greater Cleveland:

  • Beck Center for the Arts – The Beck Center for the Arts is focused on developing innovative strategies to reach and engage individuals who are young and/or represent diverse constituencies to build audiences for the future. The Callahan Foundation awarded $10,000 to support efforts to engage and educate the community by offering free quality arts experiences, including implementing a “Children’s Arts Festival” in May 2015, supporting a free music series on the “Red Stage,” and building upon the collaborative efforts with the Hispanic Cultural Center and Esperanza, Inc.
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland helps children most in need to grow, learn and realize their potential. The Callahan Foundation awarded $10,000 to support the creation of world-class educational arts programming. This includes elevating existing arts activities to an outcomes-driven curriculum, developing sustained partnerships with community arts institutions and extending family participation in events, performances and exhibits.
  • Downtown Cleveland Alliance – The Callahan Foundation awarded $10,000 to support the Alliance’s GeneroCity Cleveland Program. This unique program helps hundreds of homeless individuals each year to secure placement into housing by ensuring they have the documentation they need to be eligible, and by providing the transportation that makes Cleveland’s dispersed social service agencies and government offices more accessible.
  • Music Masters® Series – A collaboration between Case Western Reserve University’s College of Arts and Sciences and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Music Masters programs are designed to honor individuals who contributed to rock and roll’s rise in the 1950s and 1960s and to trace the lines of descent to contemporary popular music through public lectures, interviews and performances. The Callahan Foundation awarded $15,000 to support the partnership between CWRU and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  • Scranton Road Ministries C.D.C. – Scranton Road Ministries Community Development Corporation aims to revitalize Cleveland neighborhoods, one life at a time, through the transformational power of the Gospel. The Callahan Foundation awarded $10,000 to help implement Scranton Road Ministries’ Funding Sustainability plan to support expanded organizational and program capacity and further develop staff.
  • Youth Opportunities Unlimited – Dedicated to providing employment preparation and entrepreneurship training to Northeast Ohio youth who live at or below poverty level, Y.O.U. aims to empower youth to succeed in school, in the workplace and in life through education, employment and entrepreneurship. The Callahan Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to support Y.O.U.’s 2015 Impact programs, which include Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (classroom-based programs focused on career development, graduation, post-high school success, employability and leadership skills) and Jobs Unlimited Mentoring Program (after-school workshops aimed at keeping youth focused on graduating high school, developing a career path, learning employability skills and increasing college access).
