Callahan Foundation Announces Spring 2025 Grant Recipients, Continuing Legacy of Support for Northeast Ohio with $1.8M in Funding

CLEVELAND, OH (August 1, 2025) – The Callahan Foundation is proud to announce it has awarded more than $1.8 million to 35 Northeast Ohio nonprofits and initiatives as part of its Spring 2025 grant cycle. This round of funding continues the Foundation’s longstanding tradition of investing in organizations that exemplify excellence in higher education, the arts, and social services, exceeding last round’s total of $870,500 in funding.

Highlights of this cycle include:

  • $1,000,000 to The Cleveland Orchestra 
  • $125,000 to the Cleveland Clinic South Pointe for the creation of a new community health worker position.
  • $125,000 to University Circle Inc. to support renovations and upgrades to its community headquarters.

Spring 2025 grant recipients include:

The Cleveland Orchestra: The Cleveland Orchestra is dedicated to inspiring and enriching lives by creating extraordinary musical experiences at the highest level of artistic excellence. The organization reaches more than 400,000 people annually through concerts, education programs, and community initiatives. The nonprofit was awarded $1,000,000.

10K Movement: 10K Movement preserves, presents, and cultivates authentic Street Dance culture in Greater Cleveland through education, performance, events, and consulting. Funding will support the 5th annual “Lords of the Land” Festival, a flagship summer event showcasing diverse street dance styles and culminating in a community performance. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

Aerozone Alliance: Aerozone Alliance drives economic growth in the Aerozone District, a 50-square-mile area surrounding NASA Glenn Research Center and Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Funding will support an employment pilot initiative to identify workforce needs and career barriers for airport workers. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

Beck Center for the Arts: Beck Center inspires, enriches, and transforms lives through dynamic arts experiences. The Center serves more than 60,000 individuals annually through arts education and professional performances. Funding supports general operations and endowment contributions over three years. The nonprofit was awarded $60,000.

Bellefaire JCB: Bellefaire JCB provides mental health, substance abuse, and trauma recovery services to children, youth, and families. Funding supports the expansion of behavioral health offerings to better serve youth in crisis. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging: Benjamin Rose supports aging adults and caregivers through services including housing, home-based support, and financial wellness. Funding supports aging-in-place programs for older adults in Northeast Ohio. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland: BBBS provides one-on-one mentoring relationships that empower youth to reach their full potential. Funding will support enrollment and supervision of mentoring matches for underserved youth. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

Boys Hope Girls Hope: BHGH nurtures and guides motivate young people to become well-educated, career-ready adults. Funding supports tutoring, standardized test preparation, and academic guidance for youth in grades 6–12. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

Children’s Museum of Cleveland: The Museum fosters learning through play-based, hands-on exhibits and programs for children ages 0–8. Funding will support the purchase of supplies for interactive and inclusive exhibits to provide high-quality and engaging learning experiences. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

CHN Housing Partners: CHN provides affordable housing and financial education services for low- and moderate-income residents. Funding supports its Lease-to-Own housing program, helping families transition to homeownership. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

The City Mission: The City Mission addresses homelessness through shelter, job readiness, and supportive services. Funding supports programming for men at the Crossroads Men’s Crisis Center, providing them with basic needs, weekly case management, workforce development and access to services. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

Cleveland Council on World Affairs: CCWA promotes global engagement through education and citizen diplomacy. Funding will support staff development for student and teacher curriculum, Model UN programs, and experiential learning initiatives. The nonprofit was awarded $30,000.

Cleveland Institute of Music: CIM educates and trains classical music professionals through a rigorous conservatory curriculum. Funding will support the Annual Fund, nurturing the next generation of classical musicians. The nonprofit was awarded $8,000.

Cleveland Museum of Natural History: CMNH inspires discovery through exhibitions and hands-on science experiences. Funding will increase accessibility for low-income families and expand access to the museum’s exhibits and education programs. The nonprofit was awarded $15,000.

Cleveland Clinic South Pointe: South Pointe Hospital, part of Cleveland Clinic, serves patients in the Maple Heights and Warrensville Heights areas. Funding will support the salary for a new community health worker to improve local healthcare access and improving educational services. The nonprofit was awarded $125,000.

Cleveland Cultural Gardens: The Cultural Gardens promote peace through understanding by showcasing heritage gardens representing more than 30 ethnic groups. Funding supports general operations and increased staffing over a three-year period. The nonprofit was awarded $150,000.

Cleveland Print Room: Cleveland Print Room is a nonprofit community darkroom, education center, and gallery space focused on photography. Funding supports its Artist-in-Residence program bringing photography into Cleveland public schools. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

Cleveland Rape Crisis Center: CRCC provides comprehensive services for survivors of sexual abuse and their families. Funding supports trauma recovery services and outreach programming in Cuyahoga County. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

Center for Community Solutions: A health and human services think tank that conducts research, policy analysis, and advocacy. Funding supports strategic planning to expand its impact through research and data analysis. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

Delta Alpha Lambda Foundation: The Foundation provides scholarships and food assistance in Cleveland’s Buckeye neighborhood. Funding will expand food pantry operations and storage capacity. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

Fairhill Partners: Fairhill Partners connects people with lifelong learning and successful aging opportunities. Funding supports the Senior Guest House program for homeless adults over age 60, including the staffing and professional services. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity: Habitat provides affordable housing and homeownership opportunities. Funding supports construction and renovation efforts. The nonprofit was awarded $5,000.

Jewish Family Service Association: JFSA provides comprehensive social services, especially for older adults and individuals with dementia. Funding supports dementia caregiver support and memory café programs, providing dignity at home with life ehancing support. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

Kent State University Foundation: Kent State is a public research university that aims to softer transformation through discovery and inclusive learning. Funding supports the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program for student-led research. The nonprofit was awarded $15,000.

Legal Aid Society of Cleveland: Legal Aid offers free legal representation to low-income residents through passionate legal representation and advocacy for systematic change. Funding supports the Access to Education initiative which specifically helps families with low incomes address the challenges that prevent their school age children from reaching their full academic potential. The nonprofit was awarded $25,000.

LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland: The Center offers resources, health services, and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. Funding supports school-based programs at Urban Community School. The nonprofit was awarded $20,000.

Merrick House: Merrick House is a neighborhood center in Tremont offering educational and social services. Funding supports after-school enrichment and college readiness programs amid an increasingly hostile, anti-LGBTQ+ climate. The nonprofit was awarded $7,500.

Museum of Contemporary Art (moCa): moCa Cleveland showcases contemporary art and fosters public engagement. Funding supports general operations and strategic planning initiatives. The nonprofit was awarded $30,000.

Peninsula Foundation: The Foundation preserves historical sites and promotes live music and cultural events in Peninsula, Ohio. Funding supports music programming and building renovations, making the arts attainable, vibrant and attractive to all. The nonprofit was awarded $30,000.

Providence House: Providence House provides emergency shelter and crisis services for children and families. Funding supports family stabilization programming, specifically its Family Preservation Crisis Nursuries. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

Scranton Road Ministries: The organization offers educational and workforce development programs for youth. Funding supports the Youth Jobs Partnership program used to provide a diverse group of 450 Cleveland young adults with valuable workforce development services. The nonprofit was awarded $15,000.

Towards Employment: TE helps individuals overcome barriers to employment and build careers by championing the potential of every person to success in a rewarding career. Funding supports the WorkAdvance career pathways initiative so that individuals complete career readiness training. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

University Circle Inc.: UCI leads development and community engagement in Cleveland’s cultural district. Funding supports renovation and community space enhancements. The nonprofit was awarded $125,000.

Western Reserve Historical Society: WRHS preserves and shares the history of Northeast Ohio through museums, archives, and education. Funding supports the “Hollywood on the Cuyahoga: Northeast Ohio in the Movies” exhibit that will give a glimpse of how the film industry has blossomed into a major component of NEO culture. The nonprofit was awarded $10,000.

Western Reserve Land Conservancy: The Conservancy protects natural lands and restores habitats in Northeast Ohio. Funding supports the restoration of Brandywine Marsh project in Macedonia. The nonprofit was awarded $20,000.
