Callahan Foundation Supports Development of University Circle Inc.’s Transportation Website

University Circle Inc. (UCI) is the development, service and advocacy organization responsible for the growth of University Circle as a premier urban district and world-class center of innovation in healthcare, education, arts and culture.

UCI began in the 19th Century when two Cleveland universities, Western Reserve University and Case Institute of Technology, decided to relocate. Their move sparked the development of an educational center and the creation of a new community called University Circle. By 1950, 34 institutions had relocated to University Circle.

Today, UCI’s advocacy and service supports more than 2.2 million stakeholders annually who live, work, visit, learn and play in University Circle. University Circle is a one-of-a-kind mecca of education, healthcare, arts, cultural, religious, and social service institutions all located in one neighborhood.

In the summer of 2013, UCI kicked off its five-year planning “Beyond the Circle: 21st Century University Circle,” a district-wide collaborative five-year planning initiative to address major infrastructure challenges facing University Circle as a result of its continued growth and expansion.

A special transportation task force identified the need for a dedicated transportation website to help minimize confusion caused by disjointed, outdated and incomplete information and ensure that anyone planning to travel to or within University Circle can easily find the necessary resources to plan their trip.

The Callahan Foundation has awarded a $35,000 grant to University Circle Inc. to support the development of a dedicated Transportation Management website. The grant will allow the task force to create a user-friendly, easily navigable, responsive, interactive and up-to-date website to better meet visitors’ unique information needs.
